6 months!

Dear Drew Bear,

You are 6 months old today!  We are having so much fun with you.  You are a squealer and a squirmer and every minute that we are with you, we just enjoy it so much!

You were at the doctor on Friday for your 6 month vaccines (which you handled like a pro!) so here are your stats on your 6 month birthday:
19 lbs 1 oz
27.25 inches
You are 90% on both height and weight!  And the doctor said you were just perfect, but we already knew that!

It seems that you went a whole month without an ear infection (knock on wood).  Yay!

You are still sleeping on your tummy even though we still lay you down on your back.  Sometimes you will sleep with your knees tucked under you and your little bottom in the air.  Super cute.  You seem to be sucking your thumb a little more when you sleep or when you're tired but still use your pacifier.

We've had to do some sleep training the last month or so, but it paid off because you got back to sleeping really well at night.

Your naps continue to get more regular although you still have an off-day maybe once a week.  You usually wake up between 6 and 8, and then are ready for your nap around 9 or 9:30.  Usually you'll nap for a good 1.5-2 hours in the morning.  Then we play some more, and you are ready for your afternoon nap about 1.  For this nap you usually nap again for about 1.5 - 2 hours.  Then you'll still take your little catnap in the afternoon.  All your naps you now take in your crib usually without even fussing.  Some days you may only have one good nap but I think those are becoming less frequent.  Then you're usually ready to go to bed around 7 or 7:30.  Some days your schedule gets thrown off, but for the most part you seem to be regulating your sleep pretty well.  For naps, we've also created somewhat of a routine.  Momma will give you your pacifier and stuffed giraffe.  Then we will rock in the chair while Momma reads you a story.  You like snuggling with your giraffe!

You are still toothless!  Although last week when something was bothering you, we thought it was possible that a tooth was the culprit.  That's ok, we are in no hurry for those painful teeth to pop up.  And this past weekend your drooling has increased yet again so maybe you are getting closer.

You are sitting very well now.  Every once in awhile you will topple backwards, but we think this is more because you are tired of sitting or are trying to get to a toy.  Usually you lean forward when you are sitting so you can reach your toys.  After awhile of this, you almost always end on your belly.  You are scooting now on your belly. Between that and rolling over, you can cover a lot of ground.  Once you figure out this crawling thing, you will be unstoppable.

You've just outgrown your 3-6 month onesies.  Some of the longer ones in this size you can still squeeze into, but most of them have been packed away so we have room for your 6-9 months onesies.  You can still wear 3-6 months shorts, but I don't think these will fit for very much longer.

You've had a few firsts this month.  You rode on the boat with us for the first time!  You loved it and slept the whole time!  You also flew on an airplane for the first time!  You did so well!  During that trip, we received a lot of comments about what a good baby you are and how gorgeous you are.  We hear these things a lot, and they are completely true!  You've been eating solid baby food now for 2 weeks.  You first had peas and then carrots.  You loved both of them.  You get pretty excited every time we put you in your high chair and seem disappointed when you've finished your dinner.  You have a healthy appetite!

You are eating solids twice a day now at lunch and dinner.  Besides that, you are also eating about 5 times a day anywhere from 5-7 ounces at a time.

I think your favorite toy/activity is the jumper.  You are always so happy when you are in there and never seem ready to come out!  You are also very content playing on your activity mat.  We can't set you on your mat and leave you anymore though because you cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.  Your teachers tell me that you love the activity center at school.  We don't put you in the bumbo anymore really since you sit up on your own so well.  Usually we'll just put the boppy pillow behind you when you are sitting so if you fall back you just fall on the pillow.

You are really close to crawling.  This weekend you were on all four and rocking back and forth.  I think you figured out that you have to pick up your arm first, but you toppled right over when you tried this.

You are so giggly now!  We can elicit giggles from you daily.  Your favorite is when the tickle monster comes out and gets you!  You aren't very interested in patty-cake now though.  But we did discover this month, that your back is ticklish.  You are now also regularly greeting Momma with a smile when she picks you up from school - you melt Momma's heart Drew man!

You are becoming much more vocal.  Squealing is now your regular form of verbal communication, but you've also learned how to make a range of sounds from raspberries to yells!  You've also figured out how to blow bubbles which gives you something to do with all the drool you create!  You are still sticking your tongue out at us regularly, and whenever Momma sticks her tongue out at you you will at least smile and usually giggle.

We love you, our little Drew Bear!
Love,
Momma and Daddy
