5 months

Dear Drew Bear,

You are 5 months old today!  Time is really flying by for us.  It really feels like just a few days ago all you were doing was sleeping all day long and now you are super interactive!  We are having so much fun.

We took you to the doctor today so here are your stats on your 5 month birthday:
18 lbs 9 oz (with wet diaper)
26 inches (last doctor's visit, April 27th)

We had to take you back to the doctor for a follow up on your ear infection.  You've now had 2 :(

You now regularly sleep on you tummy and prefer this.  You like sleeping on your tummy so much that you got really mad at Momma Bear earlier this week when I (with the best intentions!) rolled you back to your back.  You are starting to prefer your thumb over your pacifier although you still go to bed and nap with your pacifier.  I think once you lose your paci you are perfectly fine using your thumb as a substitute.

You are now eating oatmeal cereal regularly - almost every day - and you LOVE it!  We started with just 1 teaspoon but now we are up to about a tablespoon each day.  You are eating about 5 to 6 times a day about 5 to 7 ounces each time.  You can sleep through the night but most nights are waking up at least once to eat.  Momma thinks this is related to you not feeling 100% well either from a cold or from you ear infections.

Your naps are starting to get more regular.  Most days you'll take 3 naps, two good ones while at school and then one little catnap (30 minutes) once you get home usually in your swing.  Most of your naps you now take in your crib.

We still think teething is imminent for you but we have thought this for quite awhile now!  You are super droolly and always trying to chew on something.  Even your teacher told us that you have to be teething soon!

You can now sit unsupported although most times you end up falling forward to your tummy.  I think you do this because you are ready to move and sitting is just too boring for you!

This month you found your toes and sometimes you think you should see what they taste like.  You also started paying more attention to Heineken and Stella.  If you are sitting next to them, you will try to pull their ears or tail or fur and they don't mind this at all.  Once you were sitting next to Stella and decided to face plant near her tummy  so you freaked Stella out a little!  She probably was nervous you were going to try to raspberry her!  (And raspberries still make you giggle!)

You now take walks in just the stroller (without the carseat) and you still love your strolls!  Just the other day you fell asleep while we were taking a walk around the block.

This past month you also went into a pool for the first time.  You did not care for this activity!  Daddy and I are hoping that as the water gets warmer you'll find swimming more enjoyable.

My favorite thing about this past month have been the giggles and the face grabbing.  You like to grab my and daddy's face and lips when we are holding you.  Usually this cracks you up too!  We have also started having significant Momma and Drew time - before bed each night we lay on the bed in your room and just giggle at each other!  Momma must look pretty funny when she's on her side because this always cracks you up!  You are becoming quite responsive too so if I start giggling you are likely to start giggling back!

You are still wearing size 3-6 months clothes, but I think you will be out of the onesies pretty soon as some of them are already starting to get too short on you.  You seem to have plenty of room in the 3-6 months size shorts though!

I think your favorite toy/thing to do right now is sitting in your bumbo seat while playing with the toys on your activity mat.  Usually when I pick you up from school you are sitting in the bumbo but earlier this week you were sitting on your own next to your teacher!

We've had so much fun this month watching you grow and develop and are looking forward to what new surprises and fun this next will bring!

We love you, our little Drew Bear!
Love,
Momma and Daddy
