Family Day at Kemah

The plant that Momma Bear works for reached 50 years of operation this year and to celebrate, the plant hosted a Family Day at the Kemah Boardwalk.  Back in the day, Family Day was an annual event that happened in the plant, but was stopped before I even started working 7 years ago.  (While fun, it's not necessarily a good idea to bring non-essential people into an operating plant).

We were excited to participate in Family Day at Kemah!  The company provided us with a free meal voucher on the boardwalk as well as wristbands that allowed us to ride rides all day long if we desired.

When we arrived at the boardwalk, we went straight to the Chevron Phillips VIP tent that the boardwalk had set up.  There was water, sodas and ice cream for us.  It was fun to see people outside of work and on top of that meet co-workers' significant others and children!

Drew was timid at first and didn't know what to think of all the people.  Eventually, he warmed up...after we let him out of his stroller.  He spent a good thirty minutes climbing in and out of his stroller and entertained us for awhile!  We have a little monkey on our hands!

My goal for the day was to go to the Aquarium to look at the fish (a must for me everytime I'm at the boardwalk) and to ride the train.  After spending some time at the tent, we headed off to see some fish.  Drew really liked it!  (Although he didn't want to cooperate for the picture).

After the Aquarium, we went to the train.  We never ride the rides at the boardwalk so I didn't even realize how many rides there were but there are quite a few!  The train took us all around the boardwalk and was a nice little ride.  Drew liked it a lot until the end when we went through a tunnel that was set up as the Wild West.  There were cowboys "shooting" at us and Drew didn't think that was very cool.

After the train, we decided we should take Drew on the Merry-Go-Round!  Why not, it was free!  Drew was excited when we were waiting in line, but once Dadda put him on the zebra, Drew was a little nervous.  I thought he was going to start crying and maybe they'd have to get off the ride.  But he fought back tears as Dadda reassured him that it was ok.  Once he got comfortable on the zebra, the ride finally started, then he was unsure about the movement up and down!

By the end of the ride, Drew was pretty comfortable and I'd dare say he had a good time!  He even gave me a wave before he dismounted the zebra!

Even though there were other rides that we could have taken Drew on, we decided it was time to get some dinner and call it day.  Momma's foot was getting tired and we knew that it was getting late for Drew as well!

Thanks CPChem for the fun day!
