Labor Day Weekend Fun!

The Lusbys had a great extended Labor Day weekend!

Saturday morning, I took the boys to the zoo.  It was the first Saturday of the month, so it was a member's morning.  This means the zoo opens one hour early for members, and they have a special keeper talk.  I wasn't sure how'd we'd be able to get out the door and to the zoo by 8, but we somehow made it!  We were also meeting Drew's friend, Tristan, (and Landon's friend, Kaylee) there.

Unfortunately, the special keeper talk was at the lion's and by the time we made it to the lions, the area was so crowded we were unable to get anywhere close enough to see anything or hear anything.  While that ended up being a bust, that did not hamper our day at all.  We saw the tiger, gorillas, giraffes (and the new baby giraffe, Gigi!).  We also saw a few random animals (wild African dogs, opaki, caracal).  Landon was really into the different animals, but he wasn't very excited about being in his stroller, especially when he saw the older boys running around.  We also saw the elephants and sea lions.  This trip, I think more time was spent running around, climbing on animal statures, and eating then actually looking at animals!  At the end of the visit, we decided to ride the carousel.  Drew was excited to ride on a banana eating mandrill.  Landon loved the ride, flirted with the lady sitting next to him, and refused to get off at the end of the ride.

Not surprisingly, the boys fell asleep in the car on the way home :)

For Sunday, we had planned a visit to the beach!  Drew had been asking to build sand castles for awhile and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to go to Galveston!  We ended up getting the beach a little later than we planned, but still ended up spending two hours out there!  The boys LOVED it!  This was Landon's first experience with the beach, and he was fearless.  He walked into the ocean right away and didn't want to stop.  He spent most of the time walking from shore to about waist deep water (as far as we'd let him go).  Drew was a little timid at first, but as the day wore on became more and more adventurous and less scared of the water/waves!  Even though we had new sand toys, we spent 95% of the time in the water and didn't play with the sand very much.

Unfortunately we have no pictures from our beach day because we realized the camera battery was dead just as we were walking out the door. :(

In other news, Landon is officially a toddler and throwing tantrums over every and anything.  Hello, terrible twos, how I have not missed you.
